Man United bid for Ozil turned down but Gibson still likely to join Sunderland

Manchester United have been rebuffed in a tentative enquiry for Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil as Sunderland close on the £5m purchase of Darron Gibson.
Ozil's agent Reza Fazeli says intermediaries have sounded the German midfielder out to see if he would be interested in moving to Old Trafford.
The 22-year-old rejected United overtures last summer to sign for Real and Fazeli added: 'We thank Manchester United for their interest but Ozil is fine in Madrid and has no intention of leaving.'

Meanwhile, talks between Sunderland and Darron Gibson are progressing well and he has agreed terms on his £5m deal.
Gibson, along with United team-mates Wes Brown and John O'Shea, was the subject of a £12million bid from Sunderland.
The Ireland international has reluctantly accepted he will have to quit United in search of regular first-team football and he will hope to kick-start his career on Wearside.
It is understood that Brown and O'Shea are still considering their options.
