Wages prove stumbling block as Gibson's move to Sunderland is abandoned
Darron Gibson's £3million move from Manchester United to Sunderland has finally broken down.
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is refusing to budge on Gibson's demands for £40,000 a week and is happy with his summer purchases after Blackpool's David Vaughan became his ninth signing last week.
No go: Darron Gibson (centre) looks unlikely to be the third Manchester United player to join Sunderland
Bruce hopes to off-load Steed Malbranque to QPR this week and West Ham want to re-sign George McCartney, 30, who has not made a first-team appearance for Sunderland since February 2010.
He spent most of last season on loan at Leeds United. Birmingham are also interested.
