Ferdinand misses NFL clash at Wembley after derby humiliation
Rio Ferdinand turned down the chance to appear at Wembley for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers clash with the Chicago Bears and take ceremonial coin toss after Manchester United's humiliation in the Manchester derby.
Ferdinand was due to fly down to Wembley with United's owners The Glazer family, who also own the Buccaneers, and act as they teams honorary captain.
No show: Rio Ferdinand opted to stay in Manchester rather than travel to Wembley for the NFL
But after the 6-1 defeat to bitter rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford Ferdinand opted to stay at home rather than travel to London.
Bad day: The Glazer family watched Manchester United lose to City and then flew to London to see the Chicago Bears beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Glazers took a helicopter to fly south to London only to see their other sports team lose 24-18 to the Bears.
This is what he missed: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers cheerleaders in action before the game
Can't catch me: Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Kregg Lumpkin and Derek Hardman failed to stop Chicago Bears defensive back D.J. Moore in the defeat
NFL fan Ferdinand on Twitter earlier in the week how he was looking forward to the day, he said: 'After the derby (going for the win) on Sunday, I’m going to Wembley to watch the Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs the Chicago Bears... love me some NFL.'
