Which of the Manchester clubs are in the best shape after splashing out over £50m?
With Manchester Untied and Manchester City set to go head-to-head for the first time this season at Wembley on Sunday, Sportsmail take a look at how the sqauds shape up after both spending £52m.
Manchester City
In - Sergio Aguero (£38m, Athletico Madrid); Stefan Savic (£6m, Partizan Belgrade); Gael Clichy (£7m, Arsenal). Total spend - £52million
Record deal: Aguero joined City for £38m
Out - Jerome Boateng (£10m, Bayern Munich); Shay Given (£3.5m, Aston Villa); Jo (undisclosed, Internacional); Felipe Caicedo (£880,000, Levante). Known income - £14.38million
Results - Club America 0 Man City 2; Vancouver Whitecaps 1 Man City 2; League of Ireland XI 0 Man City 3; LA Galaxy 1 Man City 1; Inter 0 Man City 3 Played 5, Won 4, Drawn 1 Goals - For 11; Against 2
VERDICT - City looked sharp and ready in Dublin last weekend but will have concerns at having to integrate new players. Sergio Aguero is not ready to start tomorrow's game and Roberto Mancini is still chasing three other players. It is a bit late in the summer to be doing that.
Manchester United
In - Phil Jones (£16.5m, Blackburn); Ashley Young (£17m, Aston Villa); David de Gea (£18.9m, Atletico Madrid). Total spend - £52.4million
Big move: Ashley Young swapped Villa Park for Manchester United
Out - John O'Shea (undisclosed, Sunderland); Wes Brown (£1m, Sunderland); Owen Hargreaves (released). Known income - £1million
Results - New England Revolution 1 Man Utd 4; Seattle Sounders 0 Man Utd 7; Chicago Fire 1 Man Utd 3; MLS All-Stars 0 Man Utd 4; Barcelona 1 Man Utd 2. Played 5, Won 5 Goals - For 20; Against 3
VERDICT - Still no Wesley Sneijder or Samir Nasri but Sir Alex Ferguson has to be happy with the £50million worth of talent he has acquired this summer. David De Gea, Ashley Young and Phil Jones have all slotted in well and the United boss will be just as happy with the form of Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley, who have both impressed after spells on loan. Five pre-season wins out of five, with 20 goals scored and three conceded, tells its own story.
