Valencia delight at penning new four-year Manchester United contract
Wrangle: Antonio Valencia s finally signed a new long-term deal
Antonio Valencia has revealed his delight at signing a new and improved four-year contract with Manchester United.
The winger has penned the new deal just two years into his current £50,000-a-week one, after moving to Old Trafford from Wigan in a deal worth £16million.
The 25-year-old has scored 10 times in 69 appearances for the Premier League defending champions, but missed a larget chunk of last season after suffering a horrific double leg break in a Champions League clash with Rangers.
Talks have been on-going for several months, with a short delay coming due to a disagreement over image rights.
On signing the deal, Valencia said: 'I am delighted to stay at United. Since my first day at Carrington, I have been happy here. I hope that I can continue to develop as a player. I am looking forward to making my contribution to helping this squad compete for more trophies.'
In the interview with United's official website, Sir Alex Ferguson added: 'Antonio has made a fantastic contribution since his arrival. His speed, crossing ability and versatility have been a big asset for us.
'He has a quiet, unassuming way of going about his business, which is underlined by great strength of character – as his recovery from such a bad injury last season proves.'
