Pardew offers Obertan the 'chance to shine' as Newcastle boss closes in on deal for United midfielder

Alan Pardew is optimistic that Gabriel Obertan will complete his switch from Manchester United to Newcastle this week.
Obertan, 22, has struggled to hold down a regular first-team place since following his £3million move from Bordeaux in the May 2009.
The France Under 21 international will arrive at St James’ Park for a medical on Monday before finalising the details on his new contract with the Magpies.

Speaking after the friendly with Fiorentina on Saturday, Pardew said: ‘All being well, the deal will be pushed through next week.
‘He has not really had the chance to shine at Old Trafford but he has pace to burn and will bring some much needed sharpness to our side.’
