Sign me up, Fergie! Becks jokes of United return after stellar display

David Beckham joked that his old boss Sir Alex Ferguson tried to re-sign him after a stellar display against Manchester United.
On this evidence, Ferguson could do a lot worse. As the hunt for Paul Scholes’s replacement goes on, with no progress in signing Wesley Sneijder or Samir Nasri, Beckham performed the role with aplomb for MLS All-Stars at the Red Bull Arena.
United went ahead in the 19th minute when Wayne Rooney played a one-two with Dimitar Berbatov on the edge of the area before squaring the ball to Anderson to slot home.

On the stroke of half-time, Ashley Young slipped the ball in to Park Ji-sung from the left, and the Korean fired into the far corner.
And despite Beckham’s energy, his former club added a third within minutes of the restart after Rooney lifted the ball into the path of Berbatov. His lob came back off the bar but he held off Geoff Cameron to chest down the rebound and volley in from close range.
Cameron then helped make it 4-0 through an unfortunate deflection to substitute Danny Welbeck’s effort from the edge of the area.
Beckham said: ‘It’s not embarrassing at all because you’re up against one of the best teams in the world.
‘I wouldn’t be where I am today without Sir Alex Ferguson. To play against a team that is still managed by him is emotional.'
